National Gallery of Ireland Leaving Cert Study Day

Parade Tower and Butler Gallery, Kilkenny Castle
Led by Helen Monaghan, Education Officer: Schools & Youth, National Gallery of Ireland in the morning and staff of Butler Gallery, Kilkenny Castle in the afternoon. As part of the National Gallery of Ireland’s Teacher and Schools Programme there will be a Study Day for Leaving Cert Art Students held in the Parade Tower, Kilkenny Castle in conjunction with the Butler Gallery.
The morning session will cover three topics from the Leaving Cert curriculum - The Renaissance, Impressionism to Abstraction and Modern Irish Art 1890 – 1960. These have been chosen to reflect the strengths of national collections and as a response to specific requests from art teachers. In the afternoon the Butler Gallery will hold a workshop in the Gallery’s George Vaughan Time, Place, Memory exhibition. There will also be a short presentation about the Craft’s Council of Ireland’s exhibition programme for 2010. The day is intended as a revision tool for students, backed up by visual examples from national and local collections.
