The Project Maths Development Team, in conjunction with the NCTE is running a series of workshops to promote the use of GeoGebra and Excel in the mathematics classroom. GeoGebra is a free dynamic mathematics software package for teaching and learning.
This course consists of 5 modules. Each module has been designed to be of 2.5 hours in duration.
Target Audience:
These modules are aimed at Post Primary teachers of Mathematics who are interested in integrating ICT within their classroom.
Workshop 1: GeoGebra for Synthetic Geometry: This covers the use of GeoGebra in the teaching of theorems, constructions and transformation geometry for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 2.
Workshop 2: GeoGebra for Co-ordinate Geometry: This covers the use of GeoGebra in the teaching of co-ordinate geometry for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 2.
Workshop 3: GeoGebra for Trigonometry plus participants sharing their resources:
This covers the use of GeoGebra in the teaching of trigonometry for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 2.
Workshops 4 & 5: Excel for teaching Statistics: This covers the use of Excel in the teaching of statistics. It will deal with the production of relevant graphs and formulae for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 1.
Pre-requisites: This is not a beginner's course. Participants should be comfortable with basic ICT tasks such as opening, editing, saving, closing files, etc... They should also have some experience of browsing the Internet and be familiar with downloading files.
