Course Objectives
Cuirfear béim ar leith ar mhúineadh agus ar fhoghlaim. Beidh ar chumas na rannpháirtithe:

Cúrsa praiticiúil é seo. Déanfaidh na rannpháirtithe suíomhanna idirlín éagsúla a chíoradh a d’fhéadfaí a úsáid le haghaidh foghlama agus múinte i nGaelscoil agus i scoil Gaeltachta. Ina theannta sin beidh an cúrsa dírithe ar acmhainní TFC a chruthú agus déanfaidh na rannpháirtithe acmhainn a mbeidh íomhánna, téacs agus fuaim ag gabháil léi agus roinnfidh siad é ar a víci féin. Module 1- Introducing the layout of Twitter, setting up an account, following educators/classes, sending a tweet. Discovering the power of using lists in Twitter, intruding the pupils to hastags for education, discover the Tweetdeck/Hootsuit Twitter apps Vs the internet site.
Module 2- Using Twitter for specific subjects eg - Creating a multimedia tweets, designing a background, tweeting a book review, subject facts, asking questions, conducting polls/surveys, Twitter pen-pal, sharing class information with parents.
Module 3- How to set up your account to be private and the importance of monitoring of what you tweet. As social media becomes more popular so do Tweet-ups, we will discuss the safety issues of using social media and how to encourage safe tweeting.
Overview:
This course aims to develop your ICT skills in the filed of social media, harnessing Twitter for educational purposes. We will go over the layout, Twitter apps, how to use Twitter in the classroom/subjects/connect with pupils off-site and the local community in a safe way. Introduction to Scratch

Module 1- Introduction to Scratch, layout of the graphical user interface (stage, sprite, background), create and manage multiple forms of media to create your own sprite and background), ending with the creation of an animation in Sprite.
Module 2- Exploring the process of coding a game ending with the creation of a basic game in Scratch.
Module 3- Combining the animation and game to create a more complex game.
Overview:
This course aims to develop the basic computer programming skills apply these skills to creating an animation and game. Become familiar with the Scratch layout. Create an animation and game and become familiar with the programming tools. Become familiar with troubleshooting skills in fixing programming issues. Use useful Internet sites for learning and sharing Scratch. Using your own resources (images, music, voice) to create your own game and animation. Using troubleshooting skills to resolve issues. Scratch can be used to create teacher resources (you can even create quiaes (advanced)), pupile can create their own games or you can show your pupils

Post Primary Teachers
Using dynamic mathematics software to support the teaching of Strands 3, 4
and 5 of the post-primary mathematics curriculum.
The aim of the "ICT & Maths, Part 2" course is to enable teachers to use ICT and mathematics
software to support the teaching of Strands 3, 4 and 5 of the post-primary mathematics curriculum.
Designed by the Project Maths Development Team in collaboration with NCTE the course is the
second in a series of ICT & Maths courses on the use of GeoGebra, the free dynamic mathematics software, to
support the teaching of Strand 3 (Number), Strand 4 (Algebra) and Strand 5 (Functions).
The course is accompanied by a support wiki which contains exemplars of ICT for mathematics
including the use of digital projectors, visualisers and demonstrations of how ICT applications and
equipment can be used in learning and teaching. Teachers are encouraged to work collaboratively
and create and share interactive resources on the wiki.
Duration The course is modular and 7.5 hours in total (3 sessions of 2.5 hours duration each)

Getting Started with your Laptop and Digital Projector

Overview:
The course focuses on the development of basic ICT skills for those with little or no experience of ICT, particularly with regard to its use in the classroom. The aim is to enable teachers to begin to use ICT in their classrooms independently and pursue other NCTE courses at the Basic level with confidence. The skills learnt and content covered in this course are also applicable to interactive whiteboards.

Pre-requisites:
None - participants do not require ICT skills in advance of this course.
Course Objectives:
With a particular focus on teaching and learning, participants will be enabled to:
• create and edit a simple document using word processing software
• describe files and folders and set up a basic folder structure for their own laptop or computer
• find online educational resources using an internet browser
• apply good classroom practice in relation to internet safety and copyright
• set up an email account and send and receive emails
• create a simple digital presentation using presentation software
• connect a digital projector to a laptop or teaching computer
• describe some practical applications of ICT to support the development of literacy and numeracy
• describe how ICT can support students with special educational needs
Course Content
The course is divided into three modules:
Module 1 – Creating and editing a document; using files and folders
Module 2 – Internet & Email
Module 3 – Digital presentations
These three modules address the course’s learning objectives above in a very practical, hands-on fashion. The process of, for instance, setting up an email account is covered using a step-by-step approach with each participant at a computer.

Creating ICT Resources

Module 1- Creating ICT Resources using the Internet- Scoilnet, Imagebank, Encyclopaedia Brittanica, Internet Safety and Downloading sound and video files.
Module 2- Creating ICT Resources using Digital Media- Using a digital camera, Picasa, recording and using sound.
Module 3- Creating ICT Resources with Digital Storytelling- using Photo Story 3
Overview:
This course aims to develop the basic ICT skills many teachers already have and enable them to apply these skills to creating ICT resources for teaching and learning. Useful Internet sites for teaching and learning, digital cameras and creating digital stories using images and sound are among the key topics covered.
The course focuses on:
• Literacy
• Numeracy
• Special Educational Needs.
The skills learnt and content covered in this course are also applicable to interactive whiteboards. Completion of this course, together with another short ICT skills course, equips teachers with the pre-requisites for other NCTE basic level courses.

Target Audience:
Both Primary and Post Primary teachers with limited knowledge of and/or confidence in ICT use in the classroom who need to develop their basic skills and apply them in the classroom.
Pre-requisites:
Some experience of carrying out basic ICT tasks (opening, editing, saving, closing files) and ideally have used an Internet browser. Completion of a beginner’s ICT skills course will generally satisfy these prerequisites.
Course Objectives:
With a particular focus on teaching and learning, participants will be enabled to:
• access and retrieve educational resources from the Internet (using websites such as Scoilnet, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Imagebank among others)
• apply good classroom practice in relation to internet safety and copyright
• upload digital photos to a computer and carry out basic image editing
• record and edit sound using software
• create a digital story using images, text, narration and music
• describe practical applications of ICT to support the development of literacy and numeracy
• describe how ICT can support students with special educational needs
Course Content
The course is divided into three modules. Education centres may offer the three modules together as one course, or separately as a shorter course.
Module 1 – Creating ICT Resources using the Internet
Module 2 – Creating ICT Resources using Digital Media
Module 3 – Creating ICT Resources with Digital Storytelling
Participants use computers, digital cameras and widely available software programmes to create resources. These can be saved for later use in the classroom. Participants are also guided through the myriad of Internet sites relevant to teaching and learning, with a particular focus on Irish curriculum-related resources applicable to literacy, numeracy and special educational needs.

Using a Visualiser in the Classroom

ICT & Language in the Primary Classroom (NCTE/MLPSI)

This course is suitable for Primary Teachers
ICT & Modern Language in the Primary Classroom (NCTE/MLPSI). This is a new course, for all teachers in primary schools and special schools, including resource/learning support teachers.
This short course focuses on practical skills and ideas for using ICT in the teaching and learning of languages. The skills covered can be used in the teaching of Gaeilge, English, EAL and modern languages. It features various types of software/websites and their uses in the language lesson. Teachers are enabled to develop content and to show pupils how they can create their own content. The majority of the websites and software used are free to access and suit schools with varying ICT infrastructures, from one computer in the classroom to a suite of computers in the school. In addition, much of what is covered in the course can be used with interactive whiteboards.
