Growing and Learning in the School Garden

Growing and Learning in the School Garden

This course is designed for Primary school teachers who want to integrate gardening into their curriculum. Led by experienced garden educator, Monica Fleming, this course will demonstrate how hands-on work in the school garden, such as seed sowing, planting, digging, designing, crafting, foraging and cooking can all contribute to curriculum goals across multiple subject areas.

In this course, you will learn how to plan and execute a school garden program that aligns with the Primary curriculum and engages students in meaningful, experiential learning. You will explore different gardening methods, from raised beds to container gardens, and learn how to use the garden to teach topics such as Science, Maths and language arts.

You will also learn how to involve your students in the entire gardening process, from planning and designing the garden to harvesting and cooking the produce. By working in the garden, students will develop valuable life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and responsibility, while also learning about the environment, sustainability and healthy eating habits.

Whether you are a seasoned gardener or just starting out, Growing and Learning in the School Garden will provide you with the knowledge and skills to create a vibrant, educational and sustainable garden program for your school.
